About SSL Security

To comply with the requirements of HIPPA, the Evaluwriter server supports SSL or Secure Sockets Layer -- the same security protocol used by on-line banking and other financial instutitions.

In very simple terms, the SSL protocol encrypts information exchanged over the public internet.  When a session begins, the client browser is issued a private key.  In combination with the server's public key, only the host and client can understand each other's transmissions.  Any messages snooped over the public internet by third parties cannot be decoded.

When logging into Evaluwriter using the SSL protocol, the examiner may receive this message from the browser:

Clicking Yes accepts the Evaluwriter server as a trusted authority and enables the browser to use the SSL protocol.  A yellow padlock icon will appear in the lower right-hand corner of the browser screen indicating a secure protocol is in effect.

To permanently accept the Evaluwriter server as a trusted authority, the examiner can install a root certificate in the browser's certificate store.  When the Install Root Certificate link is clicked, the browser will display the following message:

Click the Open button. On the next screen, click the Install Certificate button. The certificate will be installed.  The Evaluwriter site can be securely accessed without additional security warnings.

If your browser does not support SSL with 128-bit encryption, click here to log in without SSL security...
